Toad River, BC - Let's Start With a Cinnamon Roll

Nice trip to Toad River, BC where we s the night. Well, actually, we liked it so much that we spent 2 nights. We started with a cinnamon roll at one of the old time roadhouses along the Alaska Highway. The highway is noted for its cinnamon rolls and we wanted to test them all. We’ve already had some and we’ll test 2 more over the next two days. The first:

Really good, not too dry, not doughy, enough frosting, enough filling to make it tasty all the way through. Put this one near the top.

The Milepost said that there was a bison herd that lived on the road along our way. They told us the miles that they could be found and I had the camera ready. Nope, not a one. Oh well. Then we turned a corner and found the whole herd.

Yep, they think they own the road and can walk across it at will.

But, if the bison are big, we also appreciated this bee doing its work on this flower.

We had some great views along the way.

Whoo-eee, want to meet this guy on the road?

We stopped at the Northern Rockies Lodge to check out this wood carved wall map.

Beautiful and here are some smaller sections of it.

The guy who carved it, Paul Schlogl, worked at the lodge for 20 years and had just died June 16 after having his last beer there the day before.

We got to Toad River Lodge and found our site. If we ran our electric cord under our RV, we could look out over the lake with this view.

The Lodge had a collection of hats that numbers above 8,000 now. Where they will find room for more is a question only they can answer.

Nice rock carving on the ranch next door.

And a beaver dam on the river. Now. the beaver has obviously ‘made’ this lake. Without the lake, the view would not be nearly the same and the RV sites might lose their value. Funny, we saw a bunch of logs cut by the lodge staff right by the beaver dam. Do you think they’re encouraging him?

And, of course the ‘airport’ next door.

Can you see why we stayed an extra day? Great view, relaxing area, cool views.
