Valdez, AK - Flying Over the Glacier 2

We took off and then landed again - on another glacier.

We saw this water fall. Our pilot told us that about 6 days ago they found this, dropped a penny into it and heard it hit in 3 seconds. Several days later, they dropped another and heard it hit in 10 seconds. Several days after that, they dropped a third coin and couldn’t hear it drop at all. I don’t want to imagine how deep it is. But it was beautiful and the blues keep getting deeper as it descended.

Here’s the stream that feeds that deep hole. Swrling around the edges of the glacier like a water slide.

Finally it was time to head back. We flew over an old mine and saw the trash barrels they had left - thinking that no one would ever notice.

And the buildings have fallen into repair.

Then it was time to head back.

As we were heading back to the airport, we flew over the oil terminal. Several months ago we flew up to Deadhorse where the Prudhoe oil fields were. Then we followed the pipeline down to Valdez and now we can see the oil being loaded onto oilers. Note the booms around the ship. I wonder why.

We flew over the port of Valdez too looking out towards the Alaska Sea.

We flew over a long line of cars waiting for the pilot car to take them through the construction. We’ve been in that same line.

We flew over the small boat harbor.

And we flew over the campground.

Fun ride. Would I have like to have had some sun? Absolutely. But the overcast skies, the clouds and the steely grey color of the sea was also beautiful.
