Hope, AK - Off The Grid and Out of Touch

We’ve hiked to glaciers, we’ve strained every muscle we had on a hand tram, we’ve seen a bore tide and we’ve actually seen some Alaska sun which seems to be as rare as seeing Denali. But, we haven’t had good wi-fi signals for a while. Just can’t get it all.

If you’re wondering where all the blog is: no, we haven’t taken off to the wilderness to live off the land. We’re still alive and well, traveling through Alaska. However, first we’ve been really busy. After a slow, really slow, start we’re catching up and hitting our stride. Secondly, we’ve been off the grid for a while, staying in some US Forest Service campgrounds and now in Hope, AK, which is truly at the end of the road. Last night I got 5 blogs ready to go but today, when I tried to publish, our wi-fi gagged, choked and said ‘Geez Louise, Lady, I can only do so much’.

Maybe tomorrow, when we’re in a more populated town I can get it all done. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is happy, healthy and enjoying the 4th of July. When we were in Des Moines, one of the annual highlights was watching the fireworks, listening to the 1812 Overture and enjoying the crowds at the fireworks in Des Moines. We waited, happily anticipatint, until 10:00 when it was dark enough to shoot them off and see their fiery blaze against a black sky.

Now, how is this done in Alaska when it doesn’t get dark until 2 am or so? Or do they do their fireworks in the winter? We have no clue. We have seen people sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows for their some-mores while the sun was still high in the sky. Hmmm, work on your tan and sit around a campfire at the same time. Cool.

It’s the 4th tomorrow, I guess we’ll see.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate it all.
