Acton, CA - TV

We woke up to rain in the valley where we were and snow on the mountains around us. We saw the sun come out and then watched the rain pour down again. A great day for sitting inside. Hot oatmeal for breakfast and chili for dinner. What could be better? We had planned breakfast out today but - maybe tomorrow.

OK, how about one more story about over-the-air TV. We really like Downton Abbey and have been watching the episodes this year beginning with the first 5 episodes in San Diego on Sunday evenings. Then we moved to Menifee, CA, about 90 miles north and - oops - it shows on Monday evening and is a week behind. OK, we got to see an episode we had seen already in San Diego. No problem, we enjoyed it again. Now we are in Palm Springs which is the same as Menifee and we saw 2 new episodes since we’ve been here 2 weeks. We’ve watched all but the 9th episode. However, we move on Saturday to Acton, CA, in a valley, on the other side of the San Bernadino Mts and - guess what - we won’t be able to get over-the-air TV there. Oh, shucks.

Here’s an idea: why not go to a bar on Sunday night to watch it but what bar in its right mind shows Downton Abbey? Then we laughed about boondocking near the PBS tower but - nah. Hey, how about asking someone on the street if we could come over to their home on Sunday evenng to watch TV - we’ll bring the popcorn. Hmmm. Maybe not. Then I had a brilliant thought - we can download it for $2.99 and watch it on our computers. Got it. So on Monday (neither Amazon nor ITunes sells it until it has aired) of next week, we will head to the library and download it. Whew. Maybe that will work.
You know, our friends tell us that if we’d get direct TV, we’d be in like Flynn and be able to watch it when it aired, no matter where we were. But they’re only teasing, they know how much we watch TV and know that it would all be a waste - except for one episode of Downton Abbey.

And today we downloaded the last episode of Downton Abbey and will watch it tonight - on my 13” computer screen. Where’s my magnifying glass? Hey, Gar, pop up some popcorn, will you?
