San Diego - Sliding Through the Canyon

We left Walmart about 9:00 - we’re in no hurry since it’s a short drive to San Diego and can’t check in til afternoon. We like the drive through the mountains east of San Diego. The interstate is another one of those roads that splits in two to get through the canyons to the top of the range. And, as it winds through, it climbs. You almost feel like a pin ball winding around the canyon walls.

It’s a real grind up the hill - they’ve thought about this and how catastrophic it might be in the summer - they’ve got radiator stops all along the road to the top.

Lots of rocks along the way.

Then you hit the top of the canyon

- drive for about 60 miles through the rocks and then you begin the slide back down the canyon towards San Diego. It was Sunday and the traffic was lighter than it would have been on a Monday. Whew. Driving through heavy weekday traffic is not my cup of tea - we’ve driven right through the heart of San Diego at 5:00 pm and Gary did a great job but it’s wasn’t something we want to repeat.

‘A guy found a bottle on the ocean, and he opened it and out popped a genie, and he gave him three wishes. The guy wished for a million dollars, and poof! There appeared a million dollars. Then he wished for a convertible, and poof! There was a convertible. And then, he wished he could be irresistible to all women… poof! He turned into a box of chocolates’ -
