Detroit, MI - Elephants in the Campground

We’ve stayed in some strange places while we’ve been RV’ing but this one takes the cake. We have some friends in Alaska for the summer and they have been sending us all their pictures of bears, elk, moose, and all sorts of ocean residents. Boy, have we got a picture for them:

Yep, those are elephants. In our campground. We also saw a bareback rider on a spotted horse riding around. Then we saw the trapeze artist practicing her routine. We’re staying in the Detroit area in the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Seems that they had a circus a last week at their county fair. Since their next show is next weekend, they are resting here before they head on down the road to set up in the next location. Good break for them.

Otherwise the campground is pretty standard. But as we turned the corner in our walk yesterday we saw these and were a bit taken aback. Please note that the white line around their pen is STRING - no kidding. It is actually string, the kind you wrap packages with. Not electrified wire, not barbed wire - just string. We’re thinking that they are well trained and know that they are not supposed to cross the string. Then their trainer took down the string to feed them.
