Glen, NH - Tubin'

Lots of road construction in the area. We have noticed how bad the roads are in these parts. (Except the Maine Turnpike which cost us $14 - no wonder it’s in great shape. Thank you, Maine.) Then we hit a stretch where they have removed the old highway but have not put the new one in. Oh boy.

Nice campground here. It is a family campground and there are lots of kids with ball diamonds, playgrounds, game rooms and, situated between two rivers, lots of tubin’.

We wanted to explore the area and get in our daily walk so laced up our hiking boots and - wait a minute - let’s eat breakfast out first. We found Peaches on Yelp and the peaches and cream coffee bread was everything the other reviews said. Then we hit the breakfast: eggs OK, raisin bread toast good but the potatoes had been on the warming grill way too long. The bottom was crusty and, when I couldn’t cut it with a fork, I knew we had trouble. We had a nice outdoor table right on main street in Conway, NH, a bustling tourist town. Strangely, we have just come from Freeport, ME, an outlet city to Conway, NH, an outlet city. Sure enough, there’s a Bean outlet and lots of other outlet stores that we just saw in Freeport.

We had some grocery shopping to do and a letter to mail so though we’d get those out of the way then on to our daily walk. But, there are a few sites we can reach by hiking here so we’re off. One is Diana’s Baths, a wide short waterfall with several pools in the middle. Steps up the side so we could all get the best view. But all the views were good.

Next was Cathedral Ledge, after a nice trail through the woods.

The ledge was tall but it’s hard to see from the bottom but it’s much longer than this.

And, what is this red mushroom?

Scenery around here is beautiful - the lushness of the trees and foliage is magnified by the rain we’ve had recently.

Oh, yeah, there are some neat covered bridges in the area.
