Jacksonville, FL - Heading North

DUCKRAIN-2015-03-13-10-05.jpg

Rain and more rain. We awoke at 3:00 listening to the beating of tiny pellets on the top of our fiberglass box. Yep, rain - just what we didn’t expect nor want as we were to travel to a new location. Then it rained harder and then it rained lighter, then it rained harder. And, this pattern continued while we were eating breakfast. Finally, it calmed down, Gary unhooked the electricity (he had unhooked the rest last night), we hooked up the Jeep and were off for Jacksonville. Then it began to rain harder - and I had forgotten how many trucks travel on Interstate 95. Everyone of them spraying dirt and grime on our newly washed car and RV. Hmmm, should we have washed these two a few days ago? Ah, let’s get rid of the old dirt to make way for the new.

Since we only traveled 57 miles, we were in our campsite in jig time. Hooked up, laundry in and all was well. We did decide to go for a walk through a nearby country historical park. We found this memorial plaque at the beginning of the trail, commemorating the most southern battle of the Revolutionary War.

The trail was very good, woodsy, well marked and we had the woods to ourselves. They had built bridges over some of the small creeks that ran through the park and had put in some culverts and stones for filler in some low spots. We found it very eerie that we heard no birds singing, no squirrels rustling through the leaves and I think I spotted a deer off in the distance but otherwise we seemed to be the only living things in the park - until we turned a corner and met two guys heading in for their hike.

We were plenty glad that we were heading out since we had been keeping tabs on a dark cloud bank off to our northwest. Sure enough, we got in and the heavens opened up. I’m thinking those two guys got caught pretty far in. But, they’ll be OK - wet but OK.

Time for taxes tonight. I actually got as much done as I could but I do them on TurboTax and was told when I finished and was ready to submit them that there were several parts that our government hadn’t finished up yet and I couldn’t finish our taxes until I filled in these section. March 13, and our Congress hasn’t decided what needs to be done. Come on, guys, don’t take time off until you get done with your work.
