Summerdale, AL - How Dull Can These Two People Be?

Yesterday was a pretty dull day with the high point being my trip to the Summerdale Post Office to pick up our weekly mail. Ah, you can already tell that this day is no day to write home about. I returned only to wash and wax the front of the RV along with the windows. Then we hit the absolute nadir of excitement when we moved the RV back about 5’ so that the sewer hose didn’t go rise on its was to the connection. We’re on a bit of a slope here and, with the sewer hook-up about 8” off the ground, we need all the height we can get on the RV. Backing up 5’ will help but it would be nicer if the sewer connection was not 8” off the ground.

There, wasn’t that exciting? And, I’ve got more to top that.

In the evening we watched an infomercial. How dumb is that? You’re saying that these two people must really be sad sacks if they need to watch an infomercial for entertainment. But - it was an ad for a Best of Johnny Carson set of 10 dvd’s and they were playing snippets from the dvd’s. Hilarious and we were both laughing out loud. Good clean humor and he was the best at it. But the cost is $100 for 7 dvd’s and then they threw in another 1 dvd of Johnny with animals and another dvd of Johnny as Karnak the Magnificent and then another dvd of whatever. ‘All for the same low price.’ Only 4 small payments of $19.95. Hmm. I might think about it if it were 4 dvd’s for $25 but $100? 10 dvd’s? We had a hard enough time watching a season of Downton Abbey, much less 10 whole dvd’s. And, besides, how much can one person laugh? We might go over our limit.

If you think that watching an infomercial is dull, here’s the best: I caught Gary watching an ‘interesting’ video on his computer this evening - a video from the Rhinoflex Company about - a sewer hose.

Here’s another bit of excitement in our life that will make you think that your life is filled to the brim with adventurous happenings. Our campsite is under some oak trees. Great shade, very pretty. BUT - they drop acorns - which sometimes sound like cannon balls on the top of our roof. We’ll be sitting here quietly working on our computers and - BAM - an acorn hits. Then - BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM- one hits and then bounces down the roof only to fall off onto our mat outside the door. Then they bide their time lulling us into thinking quietly and another one falls - BAM. We both jump. One acorn almost woke us up last night.

Actually a few nights later the wind picked up a bit (but not even enough to ruffle our awnings) and the the acorns rolled around on our roof like marbles. It almost sounded like it was starting to rain.

Now, it is Monday and the excitement never ends here. At least we got to eat breakfast out at Kitty’s Cafe. Then errands. Well, no, we had planned on errands but decided that a walk along the Gulf shore was much more to our liking. It’s December, not too many here but us snowbirds. I can’t imagine what it must be like in the summer with the whole of AL down here. The sum was out as we started walking down the beach. Off in the distance was a pier jutting into the Gulf. Ah, a goal. Great walking. Look at that beautiful white sand. And, we almost had the beach to ourselves.

Gary and I have never seen a rig this close to shore. We’ve seen some in California, but they are far off on the horizon. Here there are within a good row.

Seagulls, people making sand castles, waves lapping on the shore. Can life get any better? And, now the walk back. Clouds were rolling in and by the time we got back to our car, the pier that we walked to was not to be seen. Lost in the haze.

Now, wasn’t that better than errands? Yeah, anything is better than errands.
