We woke up at 7:00 and it was 31 degrees. Then the fog rolled in and we couldn’t see across the campground. Finally, it lifted and the temperature soared almost immediately to 46 degrees. Today is the errand day. But our biggest errand is to get wi-fi so we can do some downloads on our computers. For most tasks, we have a Verizon mi-fi gadget which can service 5 objects and, in our case, we have 3: 2 laptops and 1 IPad. However, we have some really large downloads to do on all three and we’d use up all of our chargable gigabytes in a nonosecond. Now, I don’t have a clue what I’ve just written but I thougth it might make me sound really plugged in.
Last night, after we had hiked the Pacific Trail, we took our computers to the local McDonalds to sue their free wi-fi. I bought some of their coffee and Big Gar got one of their blizzards (or what ever they call them).
But, we had a hard time getting our downloads since the wi-fi wasn’t too fast. Later on, we tried both the Adult Lounge and then the Family Lounge in the campground. We had trouble there also. Downloads take time and I’m also trying to publish my blog on line. With as many pictures as I put in, it takes time to publish it. We’ll have to try again tomorrow - probably Panera in town. And, there’s a library there also.
And, here it’s morning and we’re off to Panera, with bearclaws, coffee and wi-fi. Oops, the bearclaws were as scrumptuous as usual, the coffee woke me up but there are no places to plug our computers in. No electricity and we’re stuck with batteries which will not last long enough to do these huge downloads. So, we savored our bearclaws while getting as far as we could on the back-ups but then packed up and headed out for the library which is only 2 miles down the road. Another oops as it is closed Thurs. and Fri. No wonder the parking lot was empty.
But, no fear, there is another library, even bigger, down the road another 8 miles. Here we’re ensconsed at a table, with our Los Angeles temporary library cards in our hands trying to complete our downloads.
While we were here, we heard alarms sounding for about 45 mintues. A typical city sound but never for so long. Someone must be in serious trouble for that much activity.
We hadn’t expected this process to last too long so I hadn’t brought anything to eat or mibble on. Usually I have some Pure Protein bars in the car wtih us in case we need something. However, since we had to travel around to find the wi-fi and then had another problem with the getting the blog online, it was 3:30 when we finally left the library. We were a bit hungry.
We like to make donations to the libraries we use. We’re using their electricity, their wi-fi and their tables. So, we try to make donations. I had a bit of trouble making mine today - seems the young clerk at the desk had no idea how to handle a donation and had to go speak with his supervisor. Meanwhile I was talking with the young high school girl in front of me. She had these 4 books with her:

AP American Geography
Ozymondias by Shelley
Sound and the Fury by Faulkner
Wow, and she didn’t have a DVD or a video game in her hands.
Finally I was able to make my donation and we were off. We stopped for gas at Costco (6th in line but the line moved fast) and at the grocery store for milk. Of course, the Girl Scouts caught us and we bought a box of cookies.
So, here it is 4:00 and we’ve had a bowl of fruit with yogurt on top, coffee, a bearclaw and a cookie for food today. Pretty rounded, don’t you think?
