Madison, WI - Ice Cream, Sailboats and a Trail

We got to Madison a few days before the rally so had some time to tour the University of Wisconsin campus again. We had been here in 2008 when we took a month to travel around southern Wi. The campus is lively as are most college campuses, even during the summer with lots of students with summer classes, jobs and internships. There is a marvelous path which runs along the lake from the Memorial Union about 3 miles to a point of land called Picnic Point. We had walked this before and we wanted to walk it again today.

It’s mostly shaded with mature trees arching over it, looks out across on the lake where there are sailboats and sailboards, and has a variety of people using it: walkers, women with strollers, bikers, runners, etc.

We rounded a corner and heard some band music wafting over the grass near the trail. As we neared an asphalt court we noticed some young people practicing for marching band in the fall.

We turned around and headed back to the Union where they serve some of the most marvelous ice cream we’ve had. Since this is Wisconsin, the dairy state, they have an ice cream store in Babcock Hall, the dairy building. But this ice cream is also served in the Union and with our ice cream in our hands, we headed back out to the lakeside patio to enjoy the crowds and the view.

Beautiful weather, beautiful view, beautiful walk and the ice cream - scrumptious.

Does it get any better than this?
